Madder Ratz - Apartment 2-R
DunDun was dreaming of Rat sized wire cutters and Auntie Francis’s special stash in the Penthouse. Auntie Francis had told him all about the yogurt drops and cornbread and sometimes-yummy chicken bones she kept in her larder, while she was out romping with the ratlets before bedtime last night.

Jack was soundly snuffling, when all of a sudden… plop, splash, and drip, drip, drop drip, drop.

“Dun!” Jack squeaked loudly. “Dun, quick, get to high ground there is a flood!” Jack was a worldly rat and new about the awful outside world and what it contained. He knew lots of water was not a good thing, rats can swim, but he didn’t like the water, not even rain.

Lil Dun and Jack promptly headed for their nest box and climbed on top, right into a puddle of…

“What is this?” Dun asked? “It’s not a flood Jack, it’s Neo pee, look.” Both Jack and Dun look up right as Neo waddled off leaving the wire ceiling dripping on their heads.

Meanwhile back in the penthouse…..

Francis feeling sorry for the ratlets scolded Neo and began moving some shredded paper towel over to clean up the mess. “These old rats”,she complained, referring to Neo and Fez, “Just can’t keep it tidy here. It’s a real mess!”

Mad Ratz in Apartment 2-R

Jack poked his little nose though the roof of the cage right into the Penthouse. "Hey DunDun!", he squeaked, "looks like Neo has chewed a hole in our roof!"
Sure enough several layers of paper, then cardboard and a thick plastic mat (all roofing and flooring materials) had been chewed through and there was HOLE! The cage wire was the only thing separating the Penthouse from the Apartment. If the wire wasn't there Lil Dun was sure he could sneak in and perhaps raid Francis's stash of treats!
Jack and Lil Dun became engrossed in How TO.... snip the wire!

Meanwhile in the Penthouse.......

Neo had finished the hole in the floor and Plan A was about to be put into place on how to keep those ratlets quiet! He was sure if they thought they had a leaky roof they would be spending all their time trying to patch it and move their goodie stash to a safe place that they would surely stop throwing all those late parties. Plus he strategically placed the hole right above their nest.....
Neo was being a bad rat, and he loved it!

Apartment 2 -R

Neo paced the floor as Fez marinated soundly in the hammock hanging from the penthouse roof. Fez like to fall asleep with his nose poked off to the side ready for any good aromas that might waft by. Francis was busy stashing dinner that mawm had put into the cage, corn, peas, some radicchio (Neo's favorite) and oat bread. She liked to put the big pieces of bread into her favorite hidey hole for later snacking. Neo couldn't fit in there and her and Fez were able to have the oat bread all to them selves!

Neo was to busy contemplating his alpha stature in the building to even notice dinner had arrived, and he was sure that the ratlets in Apartment 2-R were out in the neighborhood. Getting scitches and youggies from his mawm! How dare they, those young rascals!!

Meanwhile in Apartment 2-R..........

"Hey Jack!", says little DunDun, "Do you think mawm gives us more youggies than the fat alpha rat upstairs?"

Jack considered this.... "Well, Neo may be fat, but he sure gave me a good gash when he attacked me! I am glad we didn't have to live with him, he is mean. Maybe mawm gives us more youggies because she feels bad about Neo beating me up?"

Last night at dusk I noticed Woody (the wood rat) coming out on the patio to pick out some of the more appealing bits of the latest wild bird seed that I have purchased. This one has several nuts, and seed. Quite goumet! It sounded like he was throwing a party in the attic last night with his new stash of food. It was a wild time.

Well the "Penthouse" was erected and all the ratties have moved in! I put the older ratties, Fez & Neo along with Francis, my only spayed girl, in the top suite. Two levels, hammock lots, of room. Square footage wise it was actually the same as their prior cage, but it is much nicer. It also has a view plus some lovely artwrk that is hung behind it. :)

The ratlet boys, typical adolecents, in the bottom three big levels of fun! Lots of room for hidey holes, hammock, toys and the like. They race up and down chasing each other, then Jack and DunDun, fall into a heap asleep on the hammock, or some other local, since ther are sooo many places to land.

Neo is concerned because the ratlets are noisy neighbors, and tend to be a bit untidy. I explained they don't have a lovely girlie living with them to keeep things tidied up. He still feels that they should be a bit better neighbors and has filed a complaint, with me, I am the complaint department. I assured him they would keep it down early in the morning, when he is trying to sleep.

This site is a direct result of my love and relationship with my animals, and the animals that inhabit our planet. I have several rescues cat, dogs, rats, and feed lots of wild life around my home. This site helps me chronicle that love and relationship which is outside my daily task of living which is chronicled at mymeadow.
On friday morning I was cuddling with my little Sprocket and noticed a hematoma in his ear, so off to the vet. Dr. Kanfer thought some oral antibiotics, and a one dose topical in the ear should be adequate unless the site got significantly better. I was relieved the cost was minimal, no *procedures*.

The next morning Saturday my concerns became complete panic when I noticed that he was DEAF! He wan't responding to noise, things being dropped behind him, his name. He was not hearing us. I took him into the vet and his ears were flushed to remove any possible medication in front of the eardrum. Still not hearing.

By Sunday evening a slight increase in hearing was evident. I hope he gets most of it back. I feel terrible for the little guy whose life has not been that easy, having to deal with a disability too!
